I had seen a few of Bernard Casey’s sketches on Facebook before and thought they were funny. I really enjoyed his character as part of “Local Gossip”. He puts in false teeth and in the ones I saw he was going on journeys to different destinations as someone from rural Ireland. Our friends Aisling and Keith mentioned to us that they were getting tickets to see him at The Everyman in Cork. We said yes to getting them as well.
On the night of the gig The Everyman was buzzing. I saw one woman with gummy teeth sweets so I knew there were a few fans in the house. He did the first half of the show as himself and he really connected with audience through interactions, talking about school exams, people coming back from living abroad and everyday Irish life. He opened the second half with a funny video of his Local Gossip character going around Cork. He stayed in that character for the rest of the show. He really had me when he donated 25 percent of his merchandise profits on the night to St Mary of the Angels Beaufort. I’m so glad I said yes to this…
